The High Classical period of Greek art is often referred to as the golden age because of famously beautiful art made during this time. While this period of Greek art was short lived, its style exerted a strong impact on art history for over a thousand years.  Still, many viewers are unaware that this seemingly calm and idealized style of art was an actually an expression of Athenian hegemony.
