Course Description

Sixteenth-century Spanish priest, mystical theologian, administrator, teacher and writer St. John of the Cross was canonized in 1726 and is an important contributor to Roman Catholic theology and doctrine. He travelled throughout Spain and Portugal on foot, and was vitally involved with the social and political upheavals of the time, including the Spanish Inquisition. Dr. Serrán-Pagán will share highlights from his decades of research providing insight into St. John’s life, and will discuss lessons we can learn regarding the struggle for different religions and ideologies to coexist peacefully.
