Research chemist Elizabeth Zott faces the obstacles one
would expect as a female scientist in the 1960s. Her life
takes an unexpected turn when she becomes (as a single
mother) the reluctant star of a quirky but popular science
-based TV cooking show. She (and her viewers) find a
degree of empowerment from the show—as Elizabeth
encourages them to challenge the status quo and
question the limitations placed on their lives by others.
