This training will begin with a brief overview of laws and unfair labor practices. Learners will explore distributive and integrative bargaining, how to prepare for bargaining sessions, the importance of communication, and methods for satisfying both sides. Insights into how these skills can be applied to non-union negotiations will be included.

  • Describe the process of collective bargaining.
  • Identify examples of illegal, mandatory, and voluntary bargaining issues.
  • List major bargaining issues typically included in most labor agreements.
  • Explain bargaining structures and negotiation strategies.
  • Discuss what it means to bargain in good faith.

About your instructor...

Ronnie Cooper earned his BS in Human Resource Management from Friends University, Wichita, Kansas and his SPHR in 2007. Ronnie was HR Manager for 2 manufacturing facilities: Charloma, Inc. in Cherryvale, KS and Neodesha Plastics, Inc., Neodesha, KS. He was also HR Generalist for Saft America, Inc. in Valdosta, GA. Ronnie's union experience ranges from a frontline supervisor at Payless ShoeSource to a bargaining committee member with Saft America. After leaving Saft America, Ronnie held the HR Manager position at Union Tank Car Company in Valdosta, prior to their Unionization.Currently, Ronnie consults with the Independent Care Waiver Program (ICWP) in Wharton, TX on compliance as well as training and selection processes for their employees and consumers. He has 12+ years of professional teaching experience. Ronnie instructs the PHR/SPHR Certification Prep and Essentials of Human Resources with aPHR Prep courses for Valdosta State University, Office of Professional & Community Education, Valdosta, GA. Ronnie is also a past instructor for PHR/SPHR Exam Prep for the Wiregrass, Douglas, GA campus.
